The 2+1 Road system separated by the BRIFEN Cable Barrier is an effective way of upgrading the safety standards of a highway using the existing right-of-way. This is important in projects where cost is an issue.

The Swedish National Road Administration started a 2+1 with Cable Barrier test project in 1998, using just 13 km of existing roadway. This design proved so successful, that almost 1000 km of Swedish roads have now been converted over to 2+1 with Cable Barrier.

The Swedish experience shows that there is an 80% reduction in fatalities and a 55% reduction in serious injuries with the use of Cable Barrier in conjunction with a 2+1 configuration.
