Large Truck Accidents
The first picture is actually 2 separate accidents from the UK. 100 mph gusts blew over two moving lorries, one right after the other, but as you can see, the cable barrier contained them both, proving that the system is functional after an impact.
The Colorado pictures show a semi that was captured by the BRIFEN Cable Barrier on I-25. (1/4/05) The max deflection is about 6.7 meters, but the cable pulled the semi back diagonally about 2.4 meters. The semi finally came to rest about 6.1 meters from the original cable fence line. The last picture shows that the semi was pulled back.
Based on a statement from the driver, this semi would have gone head-on into oncoming traffic, probably on its side, into both lanes had the BRIFEN Cable Barrier not been installed.
The Oklahoma photos show how several lives were saved when the BRIFEN Cable Barrier successfully contained a 77,100 lbs, fully loaded gravel truck on Highway I-35 in Norman, Oklahoma in October 2004.
The Driver lost control after his trailer contacted an overpass. The truck was heading across the median to a certain head-on collision with the oncoming traffic. The BRIFEN Cable Barrier gently redirected the truck to a stop in the median.
The repair required the replacement of seven posts, which was completed in less than 10 minutes. No re-tensioning of the BRIFEN Cable Barrier was required and the barrier was back in service before towing and recovery operations could remove the truck from the median.
It should be noted
that these impacts were on the BRIFEN Test Level 3 Cable Barrier. BRIFEN now
has a TL4 Cable Barrier which can contain and redirect an 8,000 kg truck,
with a dynamic deflection of only 2.21 meters.
